Four Must Sees in Barcelona

It had been years since I’d been to Barcelona, despite my claim to anyone who asks that it is my favorite European city. MB and I spent just 48 hours in the city this time, but I was able to dig through my blog, and my brain, and remember my favorite places, so we spent most of the trip re-visiting sites I’d fallen in love with four years ago. Clearly, I need to go again soon to discover new places. In the meantime, though, below are four places that, even after seeing them several times, don’t get old- they are MUST DOs for anyone visiting Barcelona.

Parc Guell

Gaudi designed this park, and is has amazing views of the city, too. Try to get there early, and make sure you buy a ticket so you can see the most beautiful bits. (Entry is free but to see the balcony, you need to buy a ticket priced at 7.50 euros. Its worth it.)

Sagrada Familia

Not sure if I need to write anything here. It should be obvious. You can walk from Parc Guell to the Sagrada Familia in about 20 minutes, too, which is pretty nice if you like city wandering.

Montjuic is my favorite park in Barcelona. You can just walk for hours and hours and get lost in the many gardens, and then there’s the Olympic Stadium and art museum, too! I’d recommend taking the funicular up and walking to the art museum, and down to Plaza de Espana.

The Gothic Quarter

When you’re walking around the Gothic Quarter, just remember to look up all the time. The best stuff to see is above your head, from the architecture to the detail to the laundry hanging to dry.

If you’re in the Gothic Quater grab a bite at Sensei or Els 4 Gats, both places have incredible tapas and good sangria to boot!

Bonus: La Boqueria

There are over 40 markets in Barcelona, and this one is certainly the most touristy, being right off La Rambla and in the Gothic Quarter. Still, in my opinion, its very much worth a visit for its vibrant wares and many tourist-friendly snack options.
